Of the 46 peaks in the Adirondacks determined
to be 4000ft.or more above sea level by the
United States
Geological Survey at the turn of the century,
21 of them lack
trails. Though many of them have rough paths
beaten down
by climbers, these herd paths are not marked.
Climbing the peaks without maintained
trails calls for
leadership skills by folks who are experienced
in map reading
and use of the compass and who posses
a feeling for route
finding in forested mountain terrain.
The trailess peaks are
as follows:
1.Seymour
2.Seward
3.Donaldson
4.Emmons
5.Santanoni
6.Panther
7.Couchsachraga
8.MacNaughton
9.TableTop
10.Street
11.Nye
12.Esther
13.Macomb
14.South Dix
15.East Dix
16.Hough
17.Marshall
18.Gray
19.Redfield
20.Cliff
